How to transport glasses without damage: 6 smart tips

An endless struggle: you want to send a package containing glasses, but how do you go about it? What should you do to make sure those glasses arrive in one piece? In this blog, we give you six tips to make sure your glasses are well packed!

Tip 1: Use sturdy boxes of the right size

The basics of safe glass transportation start with the box you use. Always choose a sturdy cardboard box, preferably double-walled. These boxes are more resistant and protect the printed glassware if something is placed on top of it. Even better are special boxes: they have compartments so that each glass has its own place. This way, they do not touch each other during transport.

Tip 2: Wrap each glass separately

Glasses are fragile and can quickly crack if they touch each other. It is therefore important to wrap each glass separately. Use bubble wrap, newspaper or special wrapping paper to do this. Start at the bottom of the glass and wrap towards the top. Don't forget the inside of the glass either: a wad of paper inside provides extra strength and prevents the glass from breaking from the inside when pressed.

Tip 3: Always put glasses upright in the box

Many people think it is better to lay glasses down flat, but that is a mistake. Glasses are strongest at the bottom - exactly how they normally stand on the table. So always put them upright in the box, with the opening facing upwards. If the box is well filled and the glasses do not touch each other, there is the least chance of damage.

Tip 4: Fill any empty space

Have you packed the glasses and put them in the box? Then it's time to fill all the empty spaces. This will prevent the glasses from shifting during transport. You can use old newspaper, packing paper or foam flakes. The space above the glasses should also be filled so that they don't jump up if the car goes over a bump.

Tip 5: Close the box tightly and label it clearly

Once everything is securely packed, seal the box with tape. Do this not only at the top, but also extra securely at the bottom. Use wide cross-shaped tape for extra strength. Then label the box clearly. Write in large letters: "BREAKABLE - GLASSWORK" and "THIS SIDE UP". This way, anyone who lifts the box will know that they should handle it carefully and how the box should be placed.

Tip 6: Hope for a quiet delivery driver

No matter how much you can do to make sure everything arrives as whole as possible, you are always dependent on the parcel deliverers. If you pack the box as well as you can and show well that there are breakable glasses in the box, you have the best chance of the delivery driver taking this into account.
